Signing up to compete in Mock Trial as a first semester, first year law student was quite intimidating! Only being in law school for

12 weeks at this point, not having taken many of the core classes needed to litigate (evidence & trial skills), I definitely had my work cut out for me. When signing up I didn't even have a partner! I got paired with Lucas at random and we ended up being a powerhouse team. It was so great to partner with someone I wouldn't have normally gotten to work with and we were able to learn so much from each other. Lucas and I participated as a prosecution team. This case that we were litigating (State of Lone Star v. Kelly Taylor) had a tremendous amount of evidence stacked against the prosecution side, and had many difficult witnesses that we had to overcome in order to receive a guilty verdict. It was a tough case, but with the many hours put in to learning evidence rules, preparing solid cross exams, and planning our strategy with redirects, it all came together at the end!

Thank you to the Mock Trial Board at Cooley for putting on an amazing competition this semester! I loved that the board spent so much time on workshops helping set our team up for success in this years competition. Also big shoutout to Judge Bagge-Hernandez & Judge Manning for coming out and helping judge the competition!!
